Parts Needed to Tow Trailer with a 2008 Chevy Cobalt Sedan
Question:
Hello, I am moving from Cortez, CO to Portland, OR. I need to order a hitch to tow a 5x8 rental cargo trailer. Currently my car has no towing equipment. All I am taking with me for my move is a queen-size mattress and box spring, and about 4 boxes of household items. My questions: - what hitch do you recommend? - what equipment will I need to purchase in addition to a hitch? I apologize if these are dumb questions, but Ive never done this before! Thank you,

These are great questions that I would be happy to help you with!
First you would want to start with a trailer hitch for your 2008 Chevy Cobalt sedan. For that you would want the part # C11430. This is a confirmed fit for your vehicle, and it comes with a ball mount and a pin and clip. For hitch balls you would need either the part # 19258 for a 2 inch ball or # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch ball. The trailer you plan to tow will be how you determine which ball you would need. If you contact the rental company, they will tell you which you would need.
All that's left is trailer wiring which will allow your Cobalt to control the taillights of the trailer as you are towing it. For that you would want the part # 118398.
