Compatibility of Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch with Long Bed Pickup
Question:
I have a 61/2 ft bed now so i know i need the slider hitch but can a slider hitch be used in a long bed as well because my next truck will definitely be a long bed and I would like to only buy the mounting kit when i get to that point thank you. Truck now 94 k2500 silverado 6.5 bed Truck i will probably get 04 to 06 hd silverado long bed

You are correct that a sliding 5th wheel hitch is necessary for short bed applications. A sliding hitch can still be used in a long bed so long as the hitch remains in the forward locked position at all times. This is required to keep the trailer's king pin weight over or slightly forward of the rear axle centerline. If the trailer's tongue weight were any further back than that your head lights could start pointing upward and your rear end sag.
For your current truck, the 1994 Chevrolet C/K Series 2500, you could use a slider hitch like Reese 16K # RP30051 or # RP30075 along with Universal Base Rail installation kit # RP30035. For a wiring harness use # 20023.
