Recommended Weight Distribution System For Dump Trailer Weighing 5000 To 15000 Lbs
Question:
Getting a 15,000lb gvwr dump trailer to pull behind either a 2500 or 3500 Dodge truck that comes with a class V hitch. Since the weight of the trailer can vary from an empty weight of 5,000 lbs to 15,000 lbs how do you choose the proper weight distributing hitch?

If your Class V trailer hitch on your Dodge truck has a 2-1/2 inch receiver opening I recommend the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution, part # BXW2000.
This system has a 20,000-lb towing capacity and is designed for tongue weight between 1,500 and 2,000 lbs. Since the weight you are hauling varies by so much, you may want to disengage the trunnion bars when the trailer is empty. You can leave them engaged but the ride would be pretty stiff.
You will need a hitch ball with a 1-1/4 inch diameter shank like part # 63840.
