Parts Needed to Tow a Pop Up Camper with a 2005 Honda Odyssey with Hidden Hitch
Question:
Hi, I purchased a Class 3 Hidden Hitch from you a couple of years ago for my 2005 Honda Odyssey. We have happily been towing our bikes on our bike rack since. We have recently purchased a 2006 Forest River Flagstaff 228D pop up camper that we are planning on towing with our Odyssey. My brain is swimming trying to figure out what accessories I need ball mount, sway bar, brake controller, air bags?!? Agh! Can you help me determine what is necessary? Thank you!

First thing you will need is a ball mount. But you need to pick one out that will allow you to tow your trailer level. In order to do that you have to find out which rise/drop you need. You will need to measure from the bottom of the coupler to the ground when it is sitting level and then you will need to measure from the top of the hitch opening to the ground. Whatever the distance is will be the amount of rise/drop you need. With that dimension you will be able to check out the link I attached that has all of the ball mounts we carry. You will want to select the rise/drop you need from the filters so that the correct ones will be listed.
The hitch ball you will need will be based on the trailer you have. If you check out the coupler of it there should be a size listed on it. It will be 1-7/8 inch or 2 inch. Once you pick out the correct ball mount there will be the appropriate hitch ball listed as a related product on the page.
Now for something I can actually recommend that won't require any homework on your end is trailer wiring. For a 4-way trailer connector confirmed to fit your vehicle you would want the # 118438.
If the trailer has brakes and you need to install a brake controller you will then need the # ETBC7 to convert the 4-way to a 7-way. This comes with everything needed to install a brake controller as well.
I looked up the weight of the pop up you are considering and it is pretty light. Right at 2,000 lbs. I wouldn't think you would need suspension enhancement, but if you wanted to go that route you would need the Timbren # THROD2 is great because it doesn't require maintaining any air pressure or running air lines.
