Can the Head on Reese 16K 5th Wheel Hitch Be Removed from the Base
Question:
I plan on purchasing this with the Reese adapter so it can be mounted on my RAM 3500HD 8foot bed w/ factory 5th Wheel prep puck system. My question is, once installed can the head be removed from the assembly so I can get it out of the truck in parts first the head, then the rest of the hitch, then the Reese adapter? I will need to do that frequently to clear the truck bed for cargo, and fear the published 108lb weight would be too much for my age and my back. If yes, how much does the head and the rest of the hitch weighs separately? Thanks!

Yes, you can remove the head of Reese 5th wheel trailer hitch # RP30047 to make removing the whole hitch easier. The head is held to the center sections with pins. The center section is bolted to the legs. So really the hitch could be taken out in 3 sections: the head, the center section, and the legs.
The head itself weighs about 40 pounds. The center section weighs about 16 pounds. And the 2 legs make up about 36 pounds (18 pounds each). I have linked a video review of this hitch for you.
