Voyager Brake Controller Installation and Troubleshooting on a 1997 Ford Expedition
Question:
I have a 1997 ford expedition it has a factory in stalled 7way towing connection. Im trying to install a uses teknsha voyager that a friend gave me. Im using a hopkins harness with the blk to power red to brake switch white to ground and blue to trailer. When I plug in the harness I get no lights on the controller. Does this mean that the controller is no good? or the connections on my trailer are bad? Thanks in advance.

We can get you fixed right up. It sounds like you may have the wrong harness.
We have a Ford harness that will work with your vehicle. The Tekonsha Wire Replacement, item # 3035-P, is the correct harness for the under dash brake controller connection on the 1997 Ford Expedition. The instructions for this harness (see link) show the correct wiring configuration at the top of the page.
Your Voyager brake controller wiring colors are the same as the wire colors on the harness.
If you get the connector wired correctly or replace it, and you still do not have power to the brake controller, you should check the vehicle fuse panel for blown fuses. The easiest way to check is to use a circuit tester and check the black wire going into the brake controller. If this wire does not have 12 volts something is then wrong with the vehicle fuses or wiring. If you have 12 volts on this wire and the brake controller is not functioning you will most likely have to replace the controller.
I would recommend the Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller, item # 39510 and # 3035-P for the Ford Expedition, 1997. This controller comes with the vehicle specific wiring adapter and the Voyager controller which is an easy to use unit that features trailer braking in proportion the the speed in which the vehicle is stopping.
