Brake Controller Wiring Harness for a Tekonsha Voyager and 2011 Toyota Tacoma
Question:
I just bought a Tekonsha Voyager brake controler but it only has the 4 loose wires. Can I use this adapter if I cut off the controller plug end and just use the vehicle plug end? Would it need an additional ground wire?

Expert Reply:
All brake controllers come with the pigtail with 4 blunt cut wires. The vehicle specific wiring harnesses have to be sold separately because they can't include all of them with every brake controller. For the Voyager # 39510 and a 2011 Toyota Tacoma the proper harness is # 3040-P.
The harness just plugs into the back of the controller instead of using the pigtail with the blunt cut wires so you won't have to cut off anything. The additional ground wire on 3040-P is required because the Toyota ground is not sufficient for a brake controller.
