Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System for Trailer with 1,000 Pound Dry Tongue Weight
Question:
Im trying to figure out what Strait-Line Weight Distribution w Sway Control system I should go with. My trailers dry tongue weight is 995 lbs. The truck has a max tongue weight of 1,500 lbs. With that said, Im trying figure out if I should go with the 800 lbs - 1,500 lbs RP66130 or the 1,000 lbs - 1,700 lbs RP66075 system. Also, do you have any WD Shanks that are for a 2 1/2inch x 2 1/2inch receivers that would work for either of the systems listed above? All Im finding are the 2inch x2inch shanks.

Expert Reply:
Since the tongue weight capacity of the truck maxes out at 1,500 pounds there is no reason to go with a system that is rated beyond that because you will have to keep the trailer's tongue weight under that 1,500 pound limit. So I recommend the 800 to 1,500 pound system, # RP66130.
There are 2-1/2 inch shanks you can use with this system. the Reese model is # RP54977. All that is left is a ball. For a 2-5/16 inch ball that will fit the above system I recommend # C40086. I have included some additional links on weight distribution and determining tongue weight for you.
