Should Two Batteries of Different Age be Wired in Parallel

Question:

Doesnt your diagram depend on the batteries charging at a similar rate? Seems like pairing an old and a new battery would result in the new only charging to part of its capacity?

Expert Reply:

It's not recommended to use an old depleted battery with a new one when wiring them in parallel.

That is because Ohm's Law tells us that the stronger battery will discharge through the weaker battery - you will always have current flowing, wasted current that does nothing but warm batteries. And as this happens, there will be battery discharge.
