Recommended Bike Rack for Carrying 60 lb Yuba Mundo Cargo Bike and 3 Lighter Bikes

Question:

Hi, RE: HR1400Z Hollywood Rack Im looking for a 3-4 bike hitch rack. The heaviest bike I have is a Yuba Mundo Cargo bike with a 59.5inch wheelbase and weighs 60 lbs non-electric. The remaining bikes are quite a bit lighter and smaller. The smallest being a BMX bike with 16inch wheels. Will the HR1400Z rack from Hollywood Racks work if I always put the heavy cargo bike in position 1 closest to the vehicle tow hitch? If not, can you recommend a 3-4 bike hitch rack that would work for me. Thanks

We do indeed have a bike rack that would work well for you, but the Hollywood Racks SportRider SE # HR1400Z has a maximum weight capacity of 5 lbs per bike. Even though the remaining bikes are much lighter, Hollywood Racks doesn't recommend that any one single bike on the rack exceed that 50 lb capacity.

The most reasonably priced bike rack we offer that would work with your scenario is the Thule T2 Pro XTR, part # TH69TX. This bike rack has a single bike capacity of 60 lbs, which would work very well for the bikes you have. The T2 Pro XTR can fold up against the rear of your vehicle when the bikes are removed, but in order to do that you'll need the hitch pin hole to furthest point of rear bumper distance to be no greater than 4-1/2 inches (I'll link to an FAQ article that shows how to measure this). The rack can also tilt rearwards away from the vehicle to allow better access to the rear trunk or cargo area.

When loading the rack, be sure to place the heaviest bike closest to the back of the vehicle.
