Recommended Hitch and Trailer Wiring for 2014 Kia Optima Hybrid
Question:
Hi, I know nothing about trailer hitches. I want to be able to pull a small trailer, maybe 6 feet long to haul one mattress set, one light dresser, one kitchen cart and one small cabinet and some boxes. Do you have a hitch that will work? I need to haul these things 950 miles. Light kit?

The Draw-Tite Class I hitch you referenced, part # 24965, would work well as long as the weight of the trailer plus its cargo was less than the 2000 lb capacity of the hitch. You'll also want to make sure that the weight of the trailer plus whatever's loaded on it doesn't exceed the towing capacity of the vehicle itself. I checked an online copy of the owner's manual for the Optima's towing capacity, but wasn't able to find any capacity listed, so you'll need to check with your Kia dealer.
A towing system will only be as strong as its lowest rated component, whether it be the hitch or the vehicle itself. You'll need to abide by the capacity of the lowest rated component.
For a wiring harness for an EX or LX model, use # C56058 or for a SX model, use part # 119178KIT to provide a trailer wiring harness. You will need the recommended ball mount and you'll also need a trailer ball. For a 1-7/8 inch ball, use part # 19256 or for a 2 inch ball, use part # 19258.
