Some Weight Distribution Systems Not Recommended to be Left in Place when Backing The Trailer

Question:

What does 'Allow Backing Up, Not Allow Backing Up' mean? I would think that all hitches are able to be backed up with?

Some weight distribution systems can be easily damaged if the trailer should jackknife as you're backing it. Especially systems that use a friction sway control unit like part # 83660 which can be bent nearly in half if the trailer should jackknife. If you click on the 'Does Not Allow Backing Up' filter on the weight distribution department page, you'll see that all those systems use a friction sway unit.

If you are using such a unit, simply disengage it before backing the trailer. It's also not recommended that you use a friction sway unit on slick or icy pavement, as it can cause the trailer to slide as you're going around turns, which could cause the tow vehicle to lose control.

I've linked you to some FAQ articles about weight distribution that I hope you'll find helpful.
