Trailer Hitch and Wiring Harness Recommendation for 2013 Chrysler 200
Question:
Hi I have a 2013 Chrysler 200 convertible. I would like to install and purchase a carrier of some sort for a Permobil C300 wheelchair. Are you able to help me out by letting me know what products I would need to purchase. I will need to install a trailer hitch and everything there is not one on the car yet. Are they difficult to install? Thank you for your time.

To be able to transport your Permobil C300 electric wheelchair with your 2013 Chrysler 200 convertible, I recommend installing a trailer hitch and wiring harness on your vehicle and using a mobility chair trailer.
The trailer hitch I recommend for you is the Draw-Tite Class I Receiver Hitch # 24871. The recommended drawbar for this hitch is # 3594. A hitch ball compatible with the trailer coupler will be needed as well. You can use # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch diameter ball, or # 19258 for a 2 inch diameter ball.
No drilling is required to install the trailer hitch, but the exhaust will need to be temporarily lowered for installation. I have attached the instructions as well as an installation video of this hitch for you. A torque wrench, like # ALL944001, will be needed to ensure the installation hardware is torqued to the manufacturers specifications.
The # 24871 has a towing capacity of 2,000 pounds with a tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds. These capacities are double the towing capacity I found in the owner's manual for your 200. Since your vehicle has a lower towing capacity than the hitch, you will be limited by the 1,000 pound towing capacity of your vehicle. I recommend checking your owner's manual to confirm the towing capacity of your vehicle.
The trailer wiring harness I recommend is the Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56211. This harness will install in your vehicle's factory wiring, located behind the driver's side and passenger's side taillights. The power wire on the module will need to be connected through the in-line fuse to the vehicle's battery. I have attached the installation instructions for this wiring harness for you.
Using a small trailer will allow you to tow your Permobil C300 electric wheelchair while staying within your Chrysler 200's towing capacity. Since the tongue weight capacity of the 200 is only 100 pounds, a hitch mount carrier will not work for your wheelchair that weighs around 300 pounds.
