The Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Socket - Vehicle End, # PK12-707E, and other similar connectors, can be wired differently depending on the application, but there is a common method.

If you are looking at the back of the PK12-707E, where the wires attach to the terminals:
1 oclock position = brown wire, tail and running lights
3 oclock position = yellow wire, left turn and brake
5 oclock position = white wire, ground
7 oclock position = blue wire, brake controller output
9 oclock position = green wire, right turn and brake
11 oclock position = black wire, 12-volt battery power
Center position = purple wire, reverse lights

The color of the wires on your 1996 Chevy S-10 may differ from those listed above, so I recommend testing them for function using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. I have included a link below to an FAQ article on trailer wiring that will also help you wire the connector. We also have a brake controller wiring page that details how to wire the extra power wire and brake feed wire if needed in the 7-Way RV plug.
