Replacement Trailer Tire Recommendation to Replace H78-15ST

Question:

Hi, Im going to purchase wheels and tires from you for my 1963 Mobile Scout. Im trying to determine the best tire. The tires that are on the trailer now are discontinued H78-15ST. I understand the closest match is either 205/75R15 or 225/75R15. I wanted to go with the larger of the tow but am afraid I wont have sufficient clearance. The total weight of the trailer loaded will be roughly 4,000 lb. Will C rated tires be sufficient or should I go for a D rated tire?

Expert Reply:

The overall diameter of the tire size 205/75R15 will be 27.1 inches and the overall diameter of the 225/75-15 will be 28.4 inches. This should be about the same overall height as your current tires but you can measure the diameter with a tape measure to be sure.

In the taller size of 225/75R15 you could use a C range as they have 2,150 lb capacity like part # AM10251, but if you go with the other size you would need a D range to have enough like # TTWTRTM2057515C
