Replacing Trailer Connector Wiring for Rockwood A122 A-Frame Trailer with 6-Pole Square Wiring

Question:

I have a Rockwood A122 A Frame trailer. On the trailer side I currently have 7 Way Trailer connector that connects to the Trailer wiring via a 6 Pole square connector. The Yellow wire aux is not wired to the connector. I would like to replace the 7 way connector and 6 Pole square connector. I am looking at Hopkins Wiring - H20042 and Hopkins Wiring - 37995. Any other suggestions. Is there a different solution?

Instead of replacing both the 7-Way blade-style connector as well as the 6-Pole square connectors, # 37995, I recommend using a 7-Way connector and junction box to make the connections for your trailer. This will eliminate the additional, unnecessary connection at the 6-Pole square connectors.

The 7-Way connector I recommend is the Hopkins 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector with 6 Foot Lead # H20044. This connector will provide power for left turn and brake signals, right turn and brake signals, ground, tail lights, brake power, 12V hot lead, and an auxiliary wire. I have attached a chart showing the functions by color of the # H20044 connector.

For a junction box, I recommend the Spectro Trailer Wiring Junction Box # 38656. This junction box will provide you with 7 posts to make the necessary connections for your trailer wiring to the trailer connector. You can use # 44-5310A ring terminals to make connections in the box. One post, for the aux. wire as you noted, may not be used going back to the trailer.

The junction box provides an easier connection location for all of the wiring on your trailer. The box will help to keep the connection secure and clean of dirt and debris. Using a junction box also helps make replacing wiring components easier in the future.

I have attached a photo showing installation of the # 38656 junction box with a connector like the # H20044. I have also attached a video showing how this junction box is wired for you.
