Recommendation for Packing Bearing With Grease Prior to Using Grease Gun on an EZ-Lube Axle

Question:

I am installing new EZ-Lube axles on a horse trailer. When installing the hubs, is it necessary to pack the bearings with grease prior to installation? Or will application of grease through the zerk fitting after installation be sufficient? Thank-you

I highly recommend packing the bearings with grease prior to installing them on your new axle and then continue to fill up the remaining space with the EZ-Lube feature. You want to do this because it's important to make sure they are all lubed up before taking off.

The EZ-Lube feature is typically to help maintain the amount of grease within the axle between trips. If you pre pack the bearings you can be worry-free that your new bearing won't be damaged that first trip.

If you would like to limit the mess, I recommend using a bearing packer, part # L70025. I have linked a video that you may find helpful as well.
