Weight Distribution for a Travel Trailer with 776 Pounds Tongue Weight and 7,776 Pounds Gross Weight

Question:

I have a travel trailer that weighs 5703 dry with a GVWR of 7776. Hitch weight it 776. I was looking at the blue ox sway pro and didnt know if I should get the 1000 or the 1500. Does it hurt anything to just get the bigger 1500 to make sure?

To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.

If the total tongue weight ends up being under 1,000 pounds then the 1,000 pound system, # BXW1000, would work well. If the total tongue weight is close to 1,000 pounds or over then I recommend the 1,500 pound system # BXW1500.

If you go with a system that is rated too high then it can result in a stiff ride, an ineffective system, and in rare cases it can damage the trailer.

For either of the systems above you will also need a ball. For a compatible 2-5/16 inch ball I recommend # 19286. I have included some links on weight distribution and determining tongue weight for you.
