Trailer Wiring and Prodigy RF Brake Controller Pairing on a 2004 BMW X5
Question:
I have a BMW X5 I bought and installed the 11910 brake light module. What size fuse do I need for this. Also the 7 and 4 pin connector used 40 amp circuit breaker to connect power to battery and grounded the ground to chassis. the other wires I dont use is that correct? I also got the Tekonsha prodigy Rf wireless brake controller. Its mounted to trailer. It will not connect to the unit what do I need to do.

If you bought just the # 119190 harness and not the kit # 119190KIT then I recommend adding installation kit # 118151 which comes with additional wire, a fuse holder, and a 10 amp fuse.
On a 4- to 7-Way adapter such as # 37185 or in the kit # ETBC7 you would only need the trailer light functions and the black wire connected (12 volt power) via the 40 amp circuit breaker and the white ground wire attached in order for the Prodigy RF brake controller # TK94FR to function.
The other wires (purple and blue) would not be required.
The issue you are having with pairing the RF brake controller is not uncommon for German vehicles. There are a few things you can try to get the unit to pair.
First, If you do not see displayed what the instructions say just keep going through the steps. Sometimes, it will not display what it is supposed to but it will still work if you go through the steps to completion.
If that does not work then you can try taping off the pin in the 5 o'clock position at the back of the RF (where the trailer plugs into) using electrical tape. Then go through the installation process.
If that doesn't work you may need a 7-Way to 7-Way adapter, # C57003, which will put more load on the system and could allow the RF to pair up properly.
And if all of the above will not work then have a domestic vehicle with a functioning 7-Way parked right next to your X5 and pair the RF using that vehicle. Then just move the handheld unit to the X5 and tow the trailer with it and it will work.
