Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for a 2016 Toyota Tacoma
Question:
Hello, I just purchased a 2016 Tacoma and would like to purchase and install the 13264 reciever hitch. I looked under the bumper at the wiring harness for the lights and there is a small squre plug hanging off the existing harness. Is this where I can plug in a new harness for the trailor light harness? It looks as if it is an extra plug for that purpose because it is directly behind the round cut out hole at the back of the bumber where you would plug in your trailor harness if it came with the tow package but this vehicle did not come with that.

For your 2016 Toyota Tacoma the Curt hitch part # C13264 has been confirmed as a fit. As far as trailer wiring is concerned we do not hat have any fits that would plug straight into any Toyota harnesses at this time.
As of right now (Feb. 2016), we only have universal kits that would need to get hardwired to your truck's taillight wiring like the Curt # C59236. I attached a link to the trailer wiring harnesses for your vehicle though that will always have the most up to date fits as we get them.
If you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
