Can a Trailer with 4.80/4-8 Tires Travel at 50 to 65 MPH

Question:

Hi. My jetski trailer has 4.80/4-8 tires Load B. When I use it, it is like a 60 mile trip to the ramp and another 60 to home, so all together is like a 120 miles trip. I usually travel at a speed from 50mph to 65 mph. Would this damage the bearings? would changing to a 12 inch tire help? Also, I notice the trailer is a little unstable from side to side, and it is because the tire sidewall flex a little.

Expert Reply:

Your trailer hubs should be just fine for the speeds you listed of 50 to 65 mph. Just make sure the hubs have plenty of clean grease and you would be totally fine.

If the tires seem unstable make sure they have the max PSI that the sidewall lists in them at all times. Trailer tires are designed to be run at their max PSI to ensure proper stability and wear.
