Thule STL2 Snug Tite Receiver Lock Replacement Lock Core

Question:

I have 2 of these. One is for my hitch receiver adapter, and I ordered another for my bike rack. What concerns me is anti-theft security. The code on the lock is exposed. Right? So, do you think a neighbor/thief can easily order the key that fits my lock? Am I right in assuming this could happen? I was thinking of asking Thule to create two new lock cylinders without engraving the code on them. What do you think of this concern? Any other suggestions? Thank you very much for your help!

The lock codes on Thule keys and lock cylinders are there to allow owners to order replacement parts when needed. Strictly speaking, if your neighbor really wanted your bike rack they could take note of the lock code and order a key.

Since Thule does not offer numberless lock cores a simple solution is to replace your cores with new ones, and before installing the cores in your bike rack and hitch lock, remove their numbers with a file. You will want to write the number down and keep this in a safe place for future reference. This would prevent someone from noting your lock core number and ordering the matching key.

Thule's 2-core lock set is part # TH450200 and it comes with a control key to remove your existing lock cores and install the new ones.
