Recommendations For Carrying 6 Bikes On Back Of 2015 Coachmen Catalina Travel Trailer

Question:

I have a 2015 coachmen catalina 293qbck. I would like to add a 4 bike rack to the back. Can you point me in the right direction? Is there a 6 bike rack? Too much weight? Thank you.

We do offer a 4-bike carrier for the back of an RV or camper. It is the Swagman 4 Bike Carrier, part # S80600. This bike rack does require that the bumper is a continuous welded steel square bumper is between 4 and 4-1/2 inches wide. Aluminum or spot-welded bumpers are not an option for this bike rack. The bike rack does limit the weight of each bike to 30 lbs.

If you have the room, you may be able to also use a ladder-mount bike carrier like part # SP501BR. This will work with any ladder that has 1 inch diameter tubing. The bikes are carrier vertically in the carrier so you will need to make sure you have the room at the back of your trailer and that the racks do not interfere with each other.

If you do not have a steel bumper on your trailer but have a trailer hitch with a 2 inch receiver opening, you may want to take a look at the Swagman Original # S64400 4-bike carrier rated for trailers. This bike carrier can carry 4 bikes with a capacity of 140 lbs. The maximum top tube diameter that will work with this carrier is 2-1/4 inches.

If you are planning on carrying bikes with alternative frames like kids bikes or women's bikes I recommend using an adapter bar like part # 64005. This attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem and allows the bike to be carried more level in the carrier while providing additional ground clearance. I have attached a product review video for this adapter bar.

If you do not have a trailer hitch I recommend the Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # 13703. This will fit RVs and Motorhomes that have a frame width between 22 and 72 inches. It will work with box frame, C-channel frame, or I-beam frames. All non-trailer loads (bike racks, cargo carriers, etc.) applied to this product must be supported by auxiliary stabilizing straps like part # 18050.

I do recommend you contact your trailer dealership to see if there are limitations for any carriers you attach to the rear of the trailer. No bike carrier will be rated for 6 bikes
