Recommended 2-1/2 Inch Receiver Hitch for a 2015 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4WD 6.5ft Bed
Question:
I am contemplating the purchase of a larger RV travel trailer but I am having second thoughts given my current tongue weight limitations. My tow vehicle is a 2015 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4WD with a 6.5 ft box. Towing capacity is 13,900# and the new RV has a has a max weight of 10,900# so that is not an issue for me. Where my issue lies is the supported tongue weight of the OEM hitch which is stated as 1500# tongue weight with or without WD. Given that the new RV has a dry tongue weight of 1255#, that doesnt leave me much headroom for additional cargo and I am concerned I will max out the OEM hitch tongue weight limits. I also have a concern on whether any drilling would be involved to change out the hitch as this is a leased truck and not sure if this would incur excessive wear and tear charges even if I am actually improving the capabilities of the truck. So my question is whether there is even a replacement hitch that can meet the following: Class 5 hitch that will fit my vehicle, have a capacity of at least 1700/17000#, support a 2 1/2 inch hitch sleeve and preferably not require any additional drilling to install? I realize I am asking a lot but any information you can provide would be GREATLY appreciated. Regards,

Good news! I have a solution to your factory hitches tongue weight being insufficient.
The TorkLift Class V Dual Receiver Hitch # TLC1212-30 is a no drill dual hitch that will replace your factory hitch receiver. This hitch offers two receivers 2 inch and 2-1/2 inch for ultimate versatility. This hitch has a tongue weight of 2,500lbs and a 20,000lbs trailer weight. What's neat about this hitch is that you could tow a trailer and carry a bike rack simultaneously. There is no drill requirement for installing this hitch but you will need to lower or temporarily remove your spare tire during the install.
It's important to note that this hitch will not increase the towing capacity of your vehicle but will allow you to use your vehicle to it's max potential.
In case you need a new ball mount for your new hitch, I went ahead and linked all 2-1/2 inch ballmounts for your convenience.
