5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Install Kit Recommendations for a 2015 Ford F-250 Short Bed

Question:

Looking at videos and specs for the Anderson Ultimate Connection 5th wheel hitch I find it very intriguing given its capacities and low cost. I have 2015 Ford F250 Crew Cab with 6 3/4 bed. My 5th wheel is a 2016 Forest River Wildcat 29 RLX. Just purchased the F250 which does not have a OEM 5th wheel prep kit. If I choose to go with the Anderson it appears I have an option of either installing a goose neck kit or a rail kit. Which would be the better way to go. I do like how clean a goose neck system leaves the truck bed. Also, a complete list of everything I will need to do the installation of both systems. Best regards

Since your 2015 Ford F-250 has the short bed I strongly recommend using a 5th wheel installation kit and hitch and not using an adapter in a gooseneck hitch. The reason is that will the short bed truck you will want as much clearance as you can get when turning so that the trailer and truck do not collide. Adapters do not offer much additional clearance.

Since you like the clean look of the gooseneck I have an excellent solution for you. I recommend the B&W system using installation kit and gooseneck hitch # BWGNRK1111-5W with the Companion hitch # BWRVK3400-5W. This is the slider version of the Companion that offers 12 inches of travel for more clearance. I have linked some videos for these parts for you.

Another option is the Demco HiJHacker hitch # DM8550022 with installation kit # DM8551000. This install kit also mounts below the bed so when the hitch is removed the bed is clear. This hitch also automatically slides 14 inches so you will not have to get in and out of the truck to activate the slider. I have linked a video of this hitch as well.
