Fifth Wheel Hitch, Rail Kit and Suspension Enhancement for 2015 GMC 1500 Sierra
Question:
what size fifth wheel can I pull and what hitch do I need ? I have a 2016 GMC 1500 1/2 ton 4X4 SLT , Standard bed, not the short box , . trailer towing package GVWR 7200 lbs, and rear axle: 3.42 ratio. Also would you recommend adding helper springs or perhaps some type air bag system? Thanks

To determine the towing capacity for your 2015 Chevy Silverado you will need to find the vehicle placard where the statement "The combined weight of occupants and cargo should never exceed XXX kg or XXX lbs."
You will need to add the weight of all of the cargo and passengers in your vehicle together and subtract that from the XXXX number to determine your overall towing capacity. I checked the owners manual of your vehicle to acquire this information.
For a fifth wheel hitch for your vehicle you will need to go with a slider hitch to allow you enough clearance to make tight turns. A very popular option is the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ S20 Slider # C95DR. And then for a rail kit the custom install kit part # RP50064-58 would be the way to go since it is a custom fit kit designed to minimize drilling and install time on your vehicle.
For an air bag kit the Firestone kit part # F2430 would be a great option that has been confirmed as a fit and would work well with fifth wheel rails.
