Base Plates, Tow Bar, Wiring, Safety Cables, and Braking System to Flat Tow a 2007 Honda CR-V

Question:

I looking to buy a motorhome mounted tow bar/brake system. I have a gas powered 1998 Bounder 36S and looking to tow a 2007 Honda CRV. What is your best package that you could put together for me?

The first thing you will need to tow the 2007 Honda CR-V behind your Bounder motor home is the base plate kit, # RM-521559-4 that you have referenced. Next you will need a tow bar. I recommend the Roadmaster Tracker Tow Bar, # RM-020. You will also need the Roadmaster Tow Bar Quick Disconnect Kit, # RM-201, to allow removal of the front extensions on the base plates.

You will also need a light kit as required by law. If you do not plan to tow the CR-V very often, I recommend a magnetic kit like # C-ATL20A. If you do plan on towing the CR-V often, I recommend installing Tail Light Isolating Diode System with Wiring Harness, # 38955. I have included a video installation and a video demonstration of this diode kit below.

Next, I recommend safety chains or cables like the RoadMaster 68 inch Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables, # RM-643. These are required by law and are used in case the towed vehicle becomes detached from the towing vehicle.

For a braking system, I recommend the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Proportional Braking System, # RM-9400. This is a proportional system that applies the brakes in the towed vehicle in proportion to how much the motor home is braking. It also features an emergency breakaway kit and wireless brake monitoring system.

Last, you will need to check with the manufacturer for instructions on the proper procedure for towing your CR-V because some vehicles must be equipped with a transmission lube pump, an axle disconnect, drive line disconnect, or free-wheeling hubs before they can be towed.
