Troubleshooting Brake Controller that Says it is Connected When it is Not
Question:
My brake controller just started showing that it is connected, .c showing, but there is no trailer connected.

Check the trailer connector. Chances are there is corrosion on the brake output pin (5:00 position). 9 times out of 10 when a trailer starts showing a trailer being connected when there isn't one connected the problem is just corrosion on the trailer connector causing a slight short which confuses the brake controller into thinking it is connected to a trailer's brake magnets.
