Tekonsha POD Power Trac Brake Controller Not Operating Trailer Brakes - Installed on 2014 Ram 1500
Question:
I purchased the 3023p harness and a reuse pod controller. My brakes only work if I manually activate them. I read I need to tap into a different wire on this truck. Is this the case

Your brake controller isn't working with the brake pedal because your brake controller isn't sensitive enough to read the stop lamp switch voltage that's fed to it when the brake pedal is pressed.
Beginning with the 2013 model year, Ram started using a multiplex wiring system for the stop lamp circuit. A multiplex circuit will use one wire for several circuits, with each separate signal being send as a different pulse. Because the stop lamp signal is only 9 volts at the most, and the # 39523 brake controller won't read voltage that low, the controller isn't functioning with the brake pedal.
I spoke with my Tekonsha representative, and he recommends using a proportional controller like the Primus, part # TK90160. The Primus will work with your # 3023-P brake controller wiring adapter, and will read the stop lamp signal perfectly. A proportional controller delivers safer, more effective and more predictable braking versus the older time-delayed brake controllers.
