What are the pro and cons of one material vs the other?

PVC doesn't rust since it isn't metal, but galvanized steel is obviously much stronger. If the application is saltwater PVC is the way to go.
PVC will be much lighter than steel as well.
If you were launching the boat in a freshwater river (obviously) and there is a high current steel would be the way to go since it would be stronger.
