Fifth Wheel Hitch and Rail Kit Recommendation for a 2012 Ford F-250 Short Bed
Question:
hello, I have a 2012 ford f250 diesel short bed, buying a 5th wheel toy hauler. I know im gonna need a roller since the short bed. can buying a hitch thats way over kill be a problem? meaning if its only going to weigh 16-17k, would buying a 20-24k do any harm?

Going with a higher rated fifth wheel hitch than needed would have no drawbacks aside from the fact that the higher rated hitches tend to cost a bit more.
The Curt Q24 Slider hitch part # C16546 that you referenced would be a great hitch to use and even with it's higher capacity it doesn't break the bank like some of them do.
For fifth wheel rails you would want to go with a custom install kit like the part # C16424-204 which has been confirmed as a fit for your vehicle. Custom install kits are great because they do not require as much drilling or install time. I attached an install video for you to check out.
For a 7-way to install in the bed of your truck to make connecting your trailer lights easier you would want the part # 41157. Most 7-ways will be at the rear of the truck near the bumper which doesn't work will with fifth wheel hitches.
