Ground Clearance After Installing Front Hitch on a 2011 Toyota 4Runner

Question:

Can you please tell me if the front hitch for the 2011 Toyota 4Runner SR5 will lower front ground clearance or angle of approach? Also, does it just bolt up or is there drilling, cutting or customization required? Is it such that I not at all handy could do it myself w/ a couple wrenches or should I pay a tech to install it? Thanks!

There is no drilling required to install the Curt Front Hitch part # C31054 on your 2011 Toyota 4Runner.

This will reduce ground clearance somewhat. But it really depends on where you will be driving if it would be an issue or not. When we installed this on a similar 2012 4Runner we measured 11-1/4 inches from the top of the hitch opening down to the ground.

My boss actually installed this hitch on his 4Runner and his exact words in regards to ground clearance are:

It does hang below the bumper so I gave up a couple inches of ground clearance, which can occasionally make the hitch great for taking soil samples :)

I attached a picture of his complete review that also has installed pics as well.

If you are mechanically inclined at all and have basic tools you would have no problem installing this hitch. I attached an install video for you to check out as well.
