What Trailer Wiring Setups Will Pollak 7/4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket w/ Mounting Bracket Fit

ref hm40975 would like to put this on 1997 and 2001 silverados. Is there a harness or pigtail available to plug into the back that I can connect to the vehicle harness? I am elecrically adept

If there is a factory 7-way at the rear of your 2001 Chevy Silverado the part # HM40975 will plug straight into the round connector that is there at the rear of the truck. If you check out the picture I attached you will see the round blue connector that the # HM40975 is designed to connect to. If that connector is present at the rear of either of your trucks it will simply plug in and be ready to go.
If that connector isn't there you would need to wire in the part # PK11998 to the wiring of either truck. Since you have two trucks and didn't mention the wiring setups and requirements you have it's hard for me to say exactly what you would need without doing a confusing amount of "if, then..." scenarios.
If you email me back with the current trailer wiring setups for both truck, (7-way? 4-way?), and if you have a brake controller in either truck or need one as well I can give you a much more specific answer.
