Is the Lock Core of a Sears X Cargo Box Replaceable

Question:

I have a Sears x-cargo carrier sport. The key broke off in the lock. The locksmith was able to get the key out. He was unsuccessful in cutting a new key. He said the inside of the lock was damaged. The Sears website takes me to Thule for the lock. I went to the local Thule dealer where I am traveling. They said the lock was not a Thule, but used the Thule key. They said it was a Sportsrack lock. Is there a way to replace the lock cylinder? Is there a way to replace the locking mechanism? The locksmith said that I would have to go to Sears and get a replacement locking mechanism. It does not look like the locks that you are showing. Thanks for your help

According to our contact at Thule, the manufacturer of the Sears X-Cargo rooftop cargo boxes, the locks on the Sears X-Cargo boxes are riveted into place and they are not replaceable. The boxes come with a 1-year warranty, so the box itself could be replaced under the warranty if you are still within the first year. The only other option is to replace the old box with a new box.

We offer several roof boxes for you to check out, including Thule boxes. I have attached a link to our selection for you to check out. One of our most popular cargo boxes is the Thule Force XXL, # TH6359B, which is slightly larger than the Sears X-Cargo Sport 20 cargo box.
