Troubleshooting Trailer Right Side Turn Signal
Question:
Have just installed all new trailer wiring and lights, and a new Curt 3 wire to 2 wire converter in car to replace an old U-Haul converter that had a swollen hump in its plastic potted body. Problem of rt side trailer signal still persists. Testing the wiring with trailer disconnected, all wires test good with circuit tester piercing wires on the output side of the converter module. The rt turn signal does cause tester to flash. When connected to all new trailer wiring, the trailer rt turn signal does not flash, but the car still does. Bulbs from rt trailer light were swapped with the left side and nothing changes. Brake and turn signal share the same wire, and the brake light does work on rt side. Only turn signal fails. Thus white wire ground would seem to be ok. Wires are new and rt brake lamp works so that shared rt. turn/brake wire cannot be shorted! What can cause the rt trailer turn signal to NOT work when everything else does? Including the Rt turn signal wire on the output side of the Curt converter when disconnected from trailer??? Can it possibly be something to do with the turn signal electrics on the 2005 Hyundai Sonata? When no trailer is connected, the left turn signal on car flashes at 2x the rate of the right signal. When connected the left flashes at the normal speed, on both the car and the trailer. The right turn signal always flashes at a normal speed on the car but never at all on the trailer. I hope you can figure this out.. I sure cant.

I can help you troubleshoot your trailer lights issue.
Sounds like you are having a grounding issue with the right trailer light. Even though the brake light works, it would be good to pull that light off and check the surface that its mounted to on all sides. If it isn't mounted to a good clean surface it can cause some of the issues you are describing. If the trailer has paint, rust, or corrosion in the area you may want to sand that post spot off.
Another option would be to remount the ground to a different location like the front of the trailer but since the left one is acting normal, I would start by comparing the two's surfaces and making sure they are both clean and tightly mounted.
If you continue to have issues, I would be more than happy to continue to troubleshoot this issue with you.
