Will the Thule Pulse Alpine Cargo Box Fit a 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan without hatch Interference

Question:

Hi, I have a 2012 VW Tiguan with factory rails. Im thinking of purchasing the Thule Alpine 613. Will this particular box interfere with the hatch? I definitely want to extend my hatch all the way. Also, Im looking at the Thule AeroBlades. Possibly going with the raised version. Is it worth the additional money or should I just purchase square bars and a fairing? Sorry one last question. Would a fairing work for me considering I have factory rails and a panaromic roof? I wouldnt want it sitting on the glass. Thanks for you help in advance!

The Thule Pulse Alpine cargo box # TH613 does fit the factory crossbars on the 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan (if equipped) and has a clearance requirement of 55-1/4 inches. To determine if there is enough space on your 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan there is a measurement you will need to take on the vehicle.

First, if you can slide the crossbars forward/back on the vehicle, move the front crossbar as far forward as it will go. Next, open the rear hatch. Then, measure from the center of the front bar back to the nearest part of the hatch. If that distance is greater than 55-1/4 inches then the box will not interfere with the hatch.

If your Tiguan just has the factory side rails that run front to back but not the crossbars that run side to side then you will need to install crossbars to mount a cargo box. I recommend going with the Thule AeroBlade Edge roof rack # TH7501-TH7502. The aerodynamic, wing-shaped design makes the bars quiet and reduces wind resistance negating the need for a fairing.

To estimate the front bar location you can find the place on the factory side rails that is the furthest point forward the foot is likely to fit and measure from that point to get an close approximation of how much clearance space is available.
