Hitch Extension and Weight Distribution Recommend for 2015 Ram with Sleddeck Towing V-Nose Trailer
Question:
I have a class V hitch on 2015 ram 2500. I put a sleddeck with 2 atv/s in the bed total weight = 1650lbs. The sleddeck hangs over the tailgate about 2 feet and I need a hitch extension that would allow me to tow a 24 foot V nose enclosed trailer weighing about 7500 lbs so the sleddeck does not put holes in my trailer. What extension would work for me?

Since the Sleddeck hangs over your tailgate 2 feet with it being in the up position a 24 inch long extension like part # RP45292 would work as long as you also use a weight distribution system since your trailer weighs enough to require a WD system with this extension. Before I get into that this will also fit the 2-1/2 inch hitch you have on your 2015 Ram 2500.
The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.
If your trailer weighs 7,500 lbs when loaded that means the tongue weight will be between 750 and 1,125 lbs. Due to the nature of the sleddeck and where the weight of your ATV's would be carried you would need to go with a Strait Line System part # RP66130 that has a tongue weight range of 800 lbs - 1,500 lbs and features the only sway control on the market that works to fight sway before it starts.
You will also need a shank, for that part # RP54970.
Since your trailer is a V-nose you will need to use the bolt on brackets part # RP58305 which will attach to the sides of the frame and do not need vertical clearance above the frame like standard frame brackets require.
For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
