Weight Distribution System for a 2003 GMC Envoy that has Load-Leveling Air Suspension

Question:

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy, it is rated to tow 6200 lbs, and it also has a factory load-leveling air suspension. I purchased a 20 ft hybrid travel trailer that weighs 3100 lbs. Since my tow vehicle has load leveling already, would I see any benefit to getting a w/d system, or would I just need a friction sway control?

I'd suggest towing the trailer without the weight distribution system, and see how everything performs. If you are happy with the way the trailer tows, you won't need to do anything. If you find that the rear of your Envoy squats quite a bit, even with the load leveling system, I'd recommend the Reese High Performance Trunnion System, part # RP66540. This system is designed for trailers with tongue weights ranging from 200- 600 lbs.

Are you currently experiencing a sway problem? If you are happy with the way your trailer is towing, with the exception of a bit of trailer sway (maybe when high winds are present or when a tractor trailer passes you) then the Reese Friction Sway Control Unit, part # 83660 might be all you need. If the swaying condition is more severe, the weight distribution system I recommended would be the Strait Line system, part # RP66082. The Strait Line system literally forces the trailer to stay in line behind the trailer, stopping trailer sway before it can start.

The systems I recommended include the weight distributing shank, but the correct size trailer ball is sold separately. For a 2 inch ball, use part # A-90 or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch ball.
