Good news, I can help you find a solution for hooking up a brake controller to your VW Touareg.

It appears that on the 2014 Volkswagen Touareg you will have to get some parts from the Volkswagen Dealer to use the factory plug for your brake controller. I have linked our Help Article specifically for your Touareg outlining what you will need and how to install it.

One option around this would be the Prodigy RF wireless brake controller # TK94FR, it uses radio signals to control the brakes on your trailer and will not need the relay. It is unlike traditional brake controllers because it allows you bypass the need to plug into the car's factory plug and simply plug it into the 12V outlet. The brake controller unit attaches to the tongue of your trailer and plugs into your 7-Way at the rear of the vehicle. After you follow the instructions and synchronize the hand held remote unit to the brake controller on the trailer you would be ready to go. Using this method would eliminate the need to use the factory plug wiring on your vehicle. I have linked a video of the Prodigy RF wireless brake controller for your convenience.

An alternative to this is to clip off your current connector and splice a wired end adapter into the wires that are coming from it. Depending on the brake controller you have you may need to use a relay to have the readings be correct.

If you don't already have a brake controller, I like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 because it is a proportional brake controller which means it senses how the tow vehicle is slowing or stopping and applies the trailer's brakes with the same intensity. It also has a full display screen instead of codes that need deciphering. It is important to note that due to your specific vehicle you will need to use a relay to have the P3 operate properly.
