Fifth Wheel Hitch and Rail Kit Recommendation for a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Short Bed

Question:

I have a 2007 dodge 1500 short bed with a 4.7 v8 and auto trans, two wheel drive with 3.55 rear axle. The book says I can flat tow 6650 lbs. Can I tow a heavier trailer if I buy a fifth wheel trailer ?

What you can do is subtract the weight of your truck from the GCWR (gross combined weight rating) and that will let you know how heavy of a fifth wheel trailer you can tow.

Your best bet would be to stick with a trailer that is under the capacity.

You would need a slider hitch like the # RP30051 and then go with a custom install rail kit like the part # RP50140-58 as a custom kit will minimize drilling and install time.
