Replacement Key for a Yakima Roof Cargo Box
Question:
I checked with local hardware stores and none of them carry blanks for cutting a replacement key for my Yakima Skybox. Am I understanding correctly that if I can get the code off the lock core youd be able to provide keys that fit without me having to replace the core? Unfortunately, I didnt receive a control key when I purchased the box new a couple years ago. I assume I need to get one of those first before I can even find the code number for the core.... But hey, its good to know that you guys have those as well!

You are correct, Yakima prints the lock number on the sides of the lock cores. You would have to remove the lock core to get the number and for that you would need the control key # Y8007835. In order to be able to remove the lock core using the control key the lock will have to be in the unlocked position.
If the lock is in the locked position then a true locksmith would have to unlock it then you could use the control key to pull it out. Once the lock core is out there should be a 4 character code on the side such as A152. The correct replacement key for this example would be # Y8772-A152.
