Brake Controller Recommendation for 2015 Chevy Silverado For Use w Electric Over Hydraulic Brakes
Question:
I own a 2008 27foot Airstream Classic with Electric over Hydraulic disk brakes. I am interested in buying a 2015 Chevy Duramax truck. However, last night when I hooked the trailer to the truck for a test drive, the Duramax brake controller would not shake hands with the trailer. The brakes work just fine with my 2013 Ford F-150. Any idea what I need to do to make the Chevy work?

Factory integrated brake controllers do not like electric over hydraulic actuators. Sometimes they work great, sometimes they work intermittently, and sometimes not at all.
Your best option that would give you consistent, reliable braking would be to upgrade the controller of your 2015 Chevy Silverado with a controller that was specifically designed to be compatible with EOH brakes like the Prodigy P2 part # 90885.
To install the controller will only require the install harness part # 3016.
First you will cut the blue wire on the plug-in wiring adapter and connect it to enough 12-gauge blue wire to reach the rear of the truck. Now at the 7-way trailer connector at the back of the truck, you will cut it's blue wire approximately 4 to 6 inches from the connector and connect it to the blue wire that was run from the brake control wiring harness. I recommend using Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connectors, # DW05745-10, and electrical tape when making all electrical connections. Now you are ready to plug the wiring adapter into the brake control port up under the dash and into the back of your new controller.
