Weight Distribution System Recommendation for Trailer with 1,000 Pound Tongue Weight
Question:
I have a Reese dual cam trunion hitch. I bought it used in mid 80s and at the time the guy said it was 750 lb bars. It was on a trailer with about 500 lb TW. I just moved it over to a trailer with 900+ TW. Installation went exactly as instructions said, but truck sags in back. Do I need your rp58358 bars or is it time for new hitch? It has been cleaned and painted so many times I can not find any numbers on it and dont know where to look.

Because of the age of your system, I recommend getting a new weight distribution system. This will ensure that all components of the system are rated for use with a trailer that has a tongue weight around 1,000 pounds.
I recommend the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System # RP66560. This system is rated for tongue weights between 600-1,200 pounds, and has a gross towing weight capacity of 12,000 pounds. The Reese Steadi-Flex uses friction to help prevent trailer sway caused by winds, curving roads, and sudden maneuvers. There is no drilling required to install the system, the brackets clamp on the trailer frames up to 6 inches. I have attached a review video of this weight distribution system for you.
The Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66560 uses a hitch ball with a 1-1/4 inch diameter shank. For a hitch ball with a 2 inch diameter ball, you can use # A-90. For a hitch ball with a 2-5/16 inch diameter ball, you can use # 19286.
