Recommended Tongue Extension For Yakima Rack And Roll Trailer For 16-1/2 Ft Canoe

Question:

Yakima says the longest two-craft carry with the Rack-and-Roll trailer is 16 feet, but my canoe is a half foot longer. I assume theres some danger on tight turns or backing up, of pinching the canoe with the towing vehicle. How much room is there for this configuration with a tight turn, and could the canoe be shifted back half foot if other weight was added to the front or counter adjustment in the accompanying craft moving it slightly forward. Of course youd still want the racks/tie-downs to be on either side of the widest part of the canoe.

To be on the safe side I recommend the Tongue Extension Kit for Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer, part # Y08109. This is designed to allow you to be able to carry longer boats on the Ranck and Roll Trailer without having to shift the canoe one way or the other.

Using this extension will allow you to be able to carry a boat up to 22 feet long. The crossbars on the Rack and Roll trailer can be spread a maximum distance of 48 inches, and the distance from the center of the coupler to the center of the front crossbar on the # Y08107 measures 83 inches. The overall distance from the center of the coupler to the back of the trailer is 132-1/2 inches. If you were to place the canoe so that the nose is over the coupler, it would extend out the rear of the trailer about 65 inches.

I have attached a photo of the Rack and Roll with dimensions shows you can check out.
