Brake Controller Installation on 2006 Ford E450 Van

Question:

I want to purchase the brake controller and adapter for a 2006 E-450 with the 7 way already on it. I found the brown adapter that now has a gray adapter coming out of it with 6 wires. 5 of the wires are just cut and laying on the floor and one of the wires is orange that is still connected to a yellow wire. I was wondering what do I do with the orange wire thats connected still to a yellow wire on the old adapter was to some other type of break system Im sure from the previous owner that is still connected with all the other wires cut and just laying there.

I'd recommend unplugging the existing adapter out of the connector you found, and replacing it with the # 3035-P adapter harness. I couldn't begin to tell you what the yellow wire on the vehicle was used for. An orange wire on the adapter harness was usually used for an illumination circuit that's not used by aftermarket brake controllers.

I see that you've looked at bot the Prodigy P3 and the Primus brake controllers. The Primus is a good, inexpensive controller. The P3 has controls and a display that's more user-friendly. The P3 is compatible with electric over hydraulic braking systems, and offers more installation flexibility. As long as the controller is level side to side, and is parallel to the direction of travel, it doesn't matter which angle the controller is mounted in. The primus needs to be mounted between level and positive 70 degrees of level (see the linked installation instructions.)
