Can 3,500 lb Grease Hubs be Converted to Oil Bath
Question:
I work for ATW Aviation out in Marana AZ. We have a 2006 American Hauler enclosed trailer which is a dual axle. I was wondering if I can switch the grease buddys over to a oil bath type using the existing hubs. I saw on one of the posts you would need the bearing numbers which I have. The outer bearing number is L44549 and inner bearing is L68149 and the hub seal is 171255TC. One of the bearings failed on the way back from Reno and we lost the tire/rim and brake drum assembly all at once. So Im looking at getting a new brake drum for the one we lost all new brake shoes and spring hardware / new bearings / seals / and one new spindle assembly which is a 4 bolt pattern to the axle. Because that one is toasted. My boss is looking to replace the bearings with a more heavy duty type and made in the USA like Timken vs these are china made. If you could get a quote together that would be great and let me know if I can change over to the oil bath type. The drum says Axis and has a stamp of 2X05F8 in it. What you have is a 3,500 lb hub that needs to be replaced with something like the # 84546UC3. This hub will fit your current trailer based on the bearing numbers you listed. You can use the # XLPROLUBE1980KIT with this hub to convert the setup to an oil bath type hub if you like though.
This kit comes with seals and cap adapters so that oil can be used instead of grease.
