Lights Not Working On 2011 Dodge 3500 With LEDs When Connected To Trailer

Question:

2011 Dodge 3500 with aluminum flatbed converted to LEDs. Works with other trailers but we have one that as soon as its plugged in lights go out on truck. New trucks work fine but they also have some resister thing wired in do I need something like that for every light or is there something can be wired in to cover everything in one shot??

Since you said the truck is working with other trailers but one trailer is causing the lights on the truck to go out, it sounds like there is an issue with the trailer wiring. You did not say whether the trailer works with other vehicles or not. If it is only being used with your Dodge then I recommend testing the wiring on the trailer.

You will want to check for any broken or damaged wires on the trailer. If you have a short on the trailer wiring, it can back feed to the truck causing a number of issues. Also check to make sure the trailer has the ground wire secured to a clean bare metal surface. Check the trailer lights for loose wires or grounds. You will want to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and a 12V power supply to do the testing while the trailer is not plugged into the truck.

If you have another vehicle without LED lights, you may want to check the trailer on that vehicle to see if the LEDs are causing the problem.

Resistors are typically used to prevent hyperflashing when you install LED lights and I do not think this is the cause of your lighting issue on the truck.
