How To Hook Up The Extra Wires On The Hopkins Adapter, # 37185, For A 2010 Toyota Tundra
Question:
I was watching the video on the installation for p/n 37185 Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole for 2010 Toyota Tundra and noticed that the four additional wires, excluding the ground wire, were not used. I understand that they are for 12v hot lead, brake controller, and reverse light but my question is will there be a need for these at any time and if so, how are they hooked up? I am electrically challenged so I am a bit lost! I have a pop up camper that I tow and am wondering, will I need any of these wires hooked up to tow. Thanks for any help on this.

The extra wires on the Hopkins Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole, # 37185, are the black wire which is a 12 volt hot lead, the blue wire which is the electric brake wire and the purple wire which is an auxiliary or reverse light wire.
The black wire would need to be wired directly to the positive post with a 40 amp inline circuit breaker, # PK54540, to give you 12 volt power back to the adapter. You would need 12 volt power to the camper if you are wanting to run any 12 volt accessories or if you have an auxiliary battery that needs charging.
The purple wire would be used if you have reverse lights on your camper. That wire would have to be connected to the reverse light circuit of the tow vehicle.
The blue wire is for electric brakes. If you do not have electric brakes then this wire would not be used.
If you have electric brakes on your camper, then you would use a brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy, # 90885, and the Brake Controller Installation Kit, # ETBC7. The installation kit does come with the Hopkins Adapter, # 37185.
The blue wire on the adapter would be wired to the blue wire on the brake controller.
I am sending a link with the instructions on wiring the brake controller with the # ETBC7, installation kit on your 2010 Toyota Tundra.
