How to Tow a Fifth Wheel Trailer with a 2011 Chevy Silverado 5-1/2 foot bed

Question:

I have a 2011 half ton silverado crew cab z71 4x4 with the short bed. I want to go with a gooseneck hitch and use the sidewinder pin and b and w companion. After reading a little it seems as though that will not work. What are your recommendations, other than another truck.

Sidewinders are not compatible with the Companion hitches or any gooseneck adapter type setup. if you have a 5-1/2 foot bed and need to tow a fifth wheel trailer you need to go with a fifth wheel rail kit like part # RP50064-58 and then a stationary hitch like the part # RP30047.

You will need to remove the pin box of the trailer and replace it with a Sidewinder pin box. Sidewinders are pin box specific so you will first need to know what pin box you have now in order to pick out the correct one.

There should be a sticker or a stamping on the OEM pin box of the trailer that will list the pin box number that is on the trailer.

Once you figure out which pin box you have you can check the FAQ I attached that has a chart that shows the correct Sidewinder to get based on which pin box you have.
