I will happy to walk you through installing the Upgraded Circuit Protected Taillight Converter Hardwire Kit, # 119178KIT, on your 2002 Mercury Villager.
First, you will need access to the wiring behind both taillights. This may require removing some panels in the rear cargo area and screws on the taillight housings. Once you have access to the taillight wiring, you will use the included circuit tester to find the right wires to connect to the harness.
The first thing you will want to do is mount the converter on the driver side near the left taillight. Make sure you mount it in a clean, flat location. You will most likely have to remove some trim panels to mount it to the metal of the vehicle. Next, use a self tapping screw or existing ground point and attach the white wire to the metal of the vehicle.
Now you can begin the wiring. Starting at the driver side taillight, use the circuit tester to find the wire that carries a signal in unison with the left blinker. Attach this wire to the yellow wire on the harness. Next, find the wire that carries a signal when the vehicle lights are on and attach it to the brown wire on the harness. Then, find the wire that carries a signal only when the brake pedal is pressed and attach it to the red wire on the harness.
The next step is to route the green wire over to the passenger side taillight. You can run the wire under carpeting or trim to keep it out of sight. Now at the passenger side, find the wire that carries a signal in unison with the right blinker. Attach this wire to the green wire. Re-assemble the taillights and you are done.
The 4-Flat will rest in the cargo area when not in use. When in use, you can close the rear hatch on the wires as long as they are not caught in the latching mechanism.
I have included a link to an installation video featuring this wiring harness that you might find helpful.
